ESN will be celebrating christmas with you on Wednesday the second of december.
But we want to make it with a little bit of a twist...
So from 20.00-21.00 Terry Gunnell an english professor at the University of Iceland will tell you the stories of the 13 icelandic Yule lads and their troll mom Grýla.
The Icelandic Yule: An illustrated presentation in English reviewing the beliefs and traditions of Icelandic Christmas past and present, from pagan gods to practical joking Christmas Lads.
Presenter: Terry Gunnell, Head of Folkloristics at the University of Iceland.
In Icelandic Christmas tradition there are 13 Yule Lads (offspring of the horrible trolls Grýla and Leppalúði) who descend from their mountain home each year around Christmas (one each day beginning on December 11) to wreak havoc on townsfolk. Each lad is named after his mischievous action.
While listening to the lecture you can snack on Icelandic christmas cookies, drink the traditional Yule glögg and enjoy the tranquil candlelight atmosphere.
At 10 we will live up the place by putting on the volume and play some good old fashion Christmas songs mixed with regular music.
This might be your last change to party it up on Wednesdays this semester so dont miss it!!
